Land's End Offers Nice Odds and Ends

Accessories are a great item to add to the wardrobe, they can really change the look and feel of an outfit.  Men's accessories are the natural part of the style.  A blue oxford button down with khaki pants can change dramatically depending on the tie, the belt and the shoes.  Due to these dramatic changes a man can never have enough of the wardrobe's odds and ends.  Land's End offers these at reasonable prices.

Land's End narrow rep ties.  All of the Land's End ties range from $39 to $19 depending on if they are on sale.

Madras web belts.  The belts have O-Ring fasteners and leather accents.  Nice way to add a pop of color to the wardrobe.

A couple of red hued tie options.  The plaid tie is modern and would look great with a chambray shirt especially a gray version.  The red and white polka dot is a classic tie that will work in any wardrobe.

Silk pocket squares are always useful.  These come with a classic and varied design providing options with how the pocket silk is worn.  It certainly helps to make it look haphazard and sprezzatura.

The D-Ring belts with stylish rep stripes are a preppy addition to any wardrobe.

All of these accessories are available with Land's End basic clothing line.  Land's End Canvas offers some unique alternatives that Modern Dignified will explore in the upcoming days.

Briefcase Style

Get a good briefcase and it will be with you for years, growing better with age and gaining a distinguished patina.  Like a fine wine, a beautiful woman or a good pair of shoes, a briefcase gets better with time.  Because of this, find one that fits your style and your workload and keep it around for the long haul.

Personally, I don't like to carry a lot of files and paperwork on a daily basis, so I prefer a folio style briefcase, day in and day out. A folio like this Jack George Underarm Briefcase works great. Made from beautiful and distinguished crocodile leather, it becomes more than a briefcase it becomes a wardrobe accessory.

The Le Donne leather flap fold briefcase can store a laptop and the files from work. It comes in a chocolate leather with two different carrying devices. It has a shoulder strap for hands free carrying and a hand strap for ease of use. The key is the hand strap is attached to the case itself and not the flap fold, which is important for carrying heavy loads. This briefcase sells for a reasonable $149, but similar models from other companies can sell for more or less depending on the quality of the leather. The best leathers will be hard at first and will soften with time, cheaper leathers will already be soft at purchase or will feel plastic.

The McKlein Briefcase is an attractive and more formal option than the flap fold briefcase. It has a harder, rigid frame with enveloping front pockets.  This design looks best with just a hand strap, but a shoulder strap can be added for airports and when hands free travel is needed. Due to the rigid frame, the laptop will be stored safely and conveniently, while the other files and paperwork can fit in their own pockets. The tan color is quite striking making it a statement piece. No need to match shoes or belts to the color of the briefcase, it is a stand alone piece. But it is nice to have a stand alone piece that looks quite attractive.

Carry your files in style with a good leather briefcase.

Hats the underrated accessory

As we have discussed, men are limited in their style accessories. Hats are completely underrated and under-utilized. At least in the well dressed crowd. Among the badly dressed hipsters, they are all too common. As a well dressed man, I encourage other well dressed men to wear hats, so we can take back the style. Make it ours again.

Wear hats, they look good come in various style and colors and designs, are truly vintage and something all the style greats wore. Find a couple you like and wear them. For the love of fashion please wear them.

Sunglasses - Retrosuperfuture

Men only have a few ways to accessorize: watches, hats, jewelry & sunglasses. The jewelry is limited, as it should be, and sometimes completely unacceptable, as it should be. Watches are great for giving a slight glimpse into your style, but they are much more about function and often about status. Hats are an under-utilized accessory that often get a bad rap due to badly dressed hipster. Sunglasses are universal, utilitarian, and can be quite personable. If the right sunglasses are chosen they can give a great glimpse into one's personality.
Retrosuperfuture is one of the companies that makes great eyewear, stylish, personal and functional. They have a unique view on the retro "Wayfarer" look that you see all over the the place. For some reason, their designs keep it fresh, even if they borrow from the retro RayBan look.

Personally, I think the beauty is in the clean simple lines and elegant minimalistic nature of the glasses. While they have glasses with flashy designs and colors, my favorite pairs are vintage colors and shapes. The flat top design on some of the designs provide the frames with a badass edge.

Since we don't have the opportunity to accessorize much, we might as well make the most of the chances we have. Retrosuperfuture certainly helps us out.
