A New Signature Brand
On Monday, LL Bean launched their new brand, LL Bean Signature. It is a mix between Brooks Brothers, J Crew and LL Bean. It is East Coast style in a contemporary and fairly affordable fashion.
LL Bean Signature is a lot of classic pieces with a modern twist, for example the barracuda jacket with a blue and white gingham lining. It is a new version to this iconic fashion piece.
In the collection is a variety of shirts, jackets and sweaters that are nicely designed and sold for reasonable prices. It is a streamlined collection focusing on the essentials and fashion musts, like this shawl collar cardigan.
Or this khaki raincoat, the unique and unusual collar is a nice touch separating it from the other rain coats out there.
The barracuda jacket in navy, which is even better than the white version.
Another example of taking a classic and putting it on its ear. Here is LL Bean's mix between a chukka boot and a boat shoe, but done in a way no other designers are offering. Plus you have to love the blue suede.
The rest of the pictures are from the LL Bean signature look book, check them out. Please let us know your thoughts at: mdignified@gmail.com.

Spring Styles - Martin + Osa
The Spring/Summer collections are finally hitting stores, thankfully. Martin + Osa has come out with some unique and interesting styles, which are not seen at any other stores. There are some styles we are not a fan of, but these we certainly are.
Rugby shirts, short sleeve and long sleeve are common in Martin + Osa this Spring. Rugby shirts can be worn by themselves or as well as worn over a button down shirt. Depending on sleeve length the rugby shirts are sold for $55 to $65.
It seems that the outerwear sold by most stores is either military inspired or sports coats of different styles. It is refreshing to see that Martin + Osa's zip up boating jacket sold in navy and orange. The jacket is sold for $160.
Everyone seems to have shawl collar sweaters, but few shawl collar sweaters have the style and design of the Rivera Shawl sweater sold for $120. This might be the best looking shawl collar on the market.

Suit: The three kinds of Lapels

For any suit that I would recommend wearing, there are only three appropriate collars: notched, peaked & shawl. Each lapel has its place on a jacket, each lapel works with the suit, the occasion and your body to provide the proper or improper look.
Notched Lapels - these are the classic lapel on most suits. They are the most common and basic lapel on a suit. The lapel works great for any body type and compliments men of all shapes and sizes. Notched lapels look great on single breasted two button and three button suits. Keep in mind the width of the lapel, too wide the lapel and you will look like a gangster, too skinny the lapel and you will look like a hipster trying to be cool. Stick to a medium to narrow lapel, a width that is classic and timeless.
Peaked Lapels - this lapel is most commonly found on double breasted suits. When buying a double breasted suit, do not purchase it unless it has a peaked lapel. A notched lapel should never grace a double breasted suit. Peaked lapels can work on single breasted suits and formal wear as well. A peaked lapel on a single breasted suit is more formal than a notched lapel, because it has the same lines as a tuxedo. A peaked lapel adds width to the shoulders, so it should be worn on slighter men and men who want to accentuate the shoulders. Men with more girth and size should be cautious employing the peaked lapel.
Shawl Collar Lapels - typically is only used on formal wear. It is always used on one, two or three button tuxedos. I prefer it with a one or two button tux and really recommend sticking with the one button look. Shawl collars are also seen in sweaters, but rarely seen in non-formal suit.Know your lapels and avoid faux pas like notched lapels on a double breasted suit.

Good shoppers find good deals
Priding myself on being a good shopper is not always about finding sales on items at J Crew, Ben Silver and Nordstroms, but sometimes it is about finding the right piece at a discount store. Most of the clothes at discount stores do not fit right or are out of style, but sometimes they get it just right and for a really good price. My two favorite stores to watch for deals are Target & American Eagle Outfitters. Take a look at the items I found at American Eagle, really cool stuff for great prices.
American Eagle Trench Coat - $99 - It has the same style as all the top designers for considerably less. Most of the designer Trench Coats are between $800 - $200 a coat, this one for only $100 is a great deal.
American Eagle Brown Leather Oxfords - $54 - As any faithful reader of this blog knows these are not Oxfords but instead Bluchers. But whatever you call them they are a good shoe for casual wear. They are useful for a night at the bar or any sporting event, and considering the circumstance could be great for a date or a casual Friday at work. I think the silhouette on these shoes are very cool, chunky where it counts and slender everywhere else. I of course love the patina and distressing, which will only improve with time. Not to mention the great price for shoes that have a wooden sole.
American Eagle Desert Shoes - $34 - These are exactly the same look as the desert shoes you will find made by Clarks, but a lot cheaper. We all know how important boots are this fall and these are a great deal on a classic shoe. Why pay more when you can get the same shoe for considerably less?
American Eagle Shawl Collar Sweater - $59 - I do like the sweaters at American Eagle quite a bit. This Shawl Collar sweater fits in with the current fall fashions and has a great accessory in the leather buttons. I would definitely think about adding this sweater to the collection.
American Eagle Woodsman Boots - $79 - These boots have a very similar look as the Red Wing boots made for J Crew, but are a lot less expensive. If you are buying boots because you need them to trudge through snow and rain and really test them in extreme conditions, go with the Red Wing boots, they are some of the best made. But if you are buying boots for fashion purposes, plus they are useful on a rainy day, these might be the boots for you. They are nearly $200 less expensive then the really nice Red Wing or Frye boots and they look pretty damn cool.
American Eagle Boat Shoes - $39 - Boat shoes never go out of style. The ones made by AE are very cool looking and significantly less than Sperry Topsiders. While I think everyman should eventually own a pair of Topsiders, these suede boat shoes are a great addition to the closet.
American Eagle College Cardigan - $49 - Cardigan's are great, they are versatile sweater that can be worn over a t-shirt or a button down, can be worn with a tie and slacks or jeans. This cardigan from AE has a cool accent of double stripes on the sleeve. It comes in Navy or Gray. For the price it is definitely worth picking up.
